Two recordings of an improvised night session in Nantes,

"Humbros are a synth-and-percussion duo from Nantes that have popped up on a couple French experimental compilations in the last year. Most of their recordings have been live, including their debut tape Night Of The Toacas, which has me desperate for them to tour in the US. Each 15-minute side allows one member to take the lead, starting with the A-side “Babahi” which drifts through heady polyrhythms. The B-side “Picorise” is far less beat-driven, but even more hypnotic, as it starts from a brittle loop that delicately plays your eardrum like a washboard and the synths process the percussion into increasingly abstract shapes until everything melts together in a final coda that brings to mind the inter-dimensional soundscapes of Spencer Clark’s classic Monopoly Child Star Searchers [https://pacificcitysoundvisions.bandcamp.com/album/bamboo-for-two] releases. I’m very excited to hear what happens once Humbros release more studio work, but their live show already sounds like something to behold." Miles Bowe
